Each year the two of us plan what we call our “epic” adventure. Last year it was the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island and the year before that, Assiniboine. This year we’ve decided to do something a little further afield, the 50km Teton Crest Trail in Grand Tetons National Park Wyoming (just south of Yellowstone).
Backpacker Magazine calls the Trail one of the “Best Hikes Ever,” with “mesmerizing and constant views of jagged peaks. Definitely looking forward to this one.
On Saturday morning we hit the road for the 11 hour drive from Calgary to Grand Teton. Sunday we pick up our permits and hit the trail for 5 days and 4 nights of high alpine adventure. Knock on wood, but the weather is looking fantastic, and a new moon will hopefully lead to some spectacular star gazing.
For our first day, we’ll take the Jackson Hole Air Tram up to the peak of Rendezvous Mountain and hike to our first night at Marion Lake. The second day will take us over the Fox Creek Pass and our second night on the Death Canyon Shelf. Day 3 takes us through the Alaska Basin and over Hurricane Pass to the South Fork Cascade Camping Zone. Next we climb over the Paintbrush Divide and spend our last night at Holly Lake. Finally on Day 5 we hike out to the Jenny Lake Trailhead and to our waiting vehicle.
Keep an eye out for our trail report when we return
